Here are the pictures from my trip to London. I saw the major sites and got done everything I really wanted to. This isn't all the pictures but it is the pictures that turned out half decently. :)
The pictures are grouped by day. Below is a brief summary of what I did each day. Click the day to view the pictures.
My first full day in London! One thing I really wanted to do was find an "old" book. I went looking and found a great place called Nigel Williams Rare Books. There is a picture of "The Hound of the Baskervilles" a famous Sherlock Holmes novel. It's worth over $2000 Cdn.
Later that day I found Soho, Chinatown, and Buckingham Palace. I also went to see the musical Guys and Dolls.
Now that I had some idea how to get around London I went to see Parliment/Big Ben and Westminster Abby. Parliment wasn't allowing tourists in until the summer so all I could do was stand outside and look. The abby doesn't allow pictures inside.
I walked down to the Imperial War Mueseum. This is a pretty interesting place showing various bits of military history including the first tanks and a V2 rocket. They also had 2 floors dedicated to the holocost and a movie about crimes against humanity. Really interesting stuff.
After doing all that I found 10 Downing St the home of the prime minister. The security won't let you near the place. It's the ugly chocolate brown colored building.
To wrap up my night I went to visit the London Athenians Speakers Club. It's always interesting to see how other Toastmaster clubs do things.
A bus Tour to Windsor, Bath and Stone Henge. Again no pictures inside Windsor Castle.
The British Museum and 221B Baker St. The museum is a must see. 2000+ years of history in one building. Highlights include the rosetta stone and a special exhibit of Michealangelo's notebooks. It's very interesting to see how much time and effort went into each masterpiece. Once again, no pictures allowed of the notebooks :(
The Baker St pictures will make a lot more sense if you're a Sherlock Holmes fan. The wax figures portray scene's or characters from the Conan Doyle stoies.
Thursday night was spent back at Buckingham Palace and Parliment trying to get some cool night shots of the buildings. Unfortunately they didn't turn out.
The Tower of London, a walk through "The City", the London Museum and St Paul's Cathederal.
The City is the orginal city of London. Over the years as it grew bigger the other districts were swallowed up. It's now mostly the buisness district. There is a wierd tower called "The Monument" it includes 311 steps up a spiral staircase to some pretty decent views of the skyline.
A pretty quiet day. It was my Birthday and I made a point of going to see the play "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" which was staring Christian Slater and Alex Kingston (Dr Corday on ER).
There was a free concert in Trafulgar Square against racism. The place was full of people.
My last real day in London. I checked out Kensington Palace which was the home of Princess Dianna, Speaker's Corner in Hyde Park and then went back down to Westminster Abby to attend an organ recital.
These were the highlights. I couldn't begin to describe the feeling you get walking into a church that has been around for 1400 years or the beauty inside Windsor Palace. The best places wouldn't let you take pictures.
There are some things I've left out, and probably more I should say but I won't for now.
